Mumbai Rain Alert: Schools in Mumbai, Thane and Palghar Likely to Remain Open Amid Heavy Rain Warnings

Mumbai, Thane and Palghar schools are expected to remain open on July 23 despite heavy rain warnings. IMD has issued orange alerts for Thane and Palghar and a yellow alert for Mumbai, forecasting heavy rainfall, strong winds, possible flooding and continued active monsoon conditions across Maharashtra.

Mumbai and the surrounding Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) are facing continued heavy rainfall activity as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issues weather alerts across Maharashtra. Despite heavy rain warnings, schools and colleges in Mumbai, Thane and Palghar are expected to remain open on Thursday, July 23, as no city-wide closure order or holiday announcement has been issued so far by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) or other civic authorities.

The Maharashtra state government has authorised district collectors and deputy commissioners to take immediate decisions regarding school closures if weather conditions worsen in specific areas. Local authorities have been empowered to suspend classes in situations involving flooding, severe waterlogging, landslides, blocked roads or any other safety concerns affecting students, teachers and staff.

Officials have clarified that decisions regarding school holidays will depend on real-time ground conditions in individual districts rather than a blanket statewide directive. Authorities stated that local assessments will determine whether educational institutions need to remain closed or continue operations during the ongoing monsoon spell.arents Advised to Follow Official Updates Before Travelling

With weather conditions expected to change rapidly within a short period, parents and students have been advised to rely on official updates from schools, district collector offices and local education departments instead of depending only on general weather alerts.

The weather department has forecast wind speeds of 50 to 60 kilometres per hour in these districts on Thursday, with intense rainfall activity expected across parts of the Konkan region.

Mumbai remains under a yellow alert, with the IMD predicting intermittent strong winds of similar speed and heavy rainfall spells in isolated parts of the city. Residents have been advised to remain cautious as weather conditions may change quickly.Heavy Rainfall Forecast Across Konkan and Madhya Maharashtra

According to the IMD forecast, heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected over Konkan and Goa as well as Madhya Maharashtra. Isolated areas in the hilly and mountain regions of Madhya Maharashtra are likely to experience extremely heavy rainfall during intense spells.

The current rainfall activity is being driven by active monsoon conditions, with moisture-filled winds strengthening precipitation along the Maharashtra coastline. Mumbai, Thane, Navi Mumbai and surrounding suburban areas have already witnessed intense showers, strong winds and waterlogging in several locations.

Weather experts have warned that continuous heavy rainfall could lead to urban flooding, sudden flooding in vulnerable areas, landslides in hilly regions and reduced visibility on roads. Commuters have been advised to exercise caution while travelling, particularly in areas affected by water accumulation and traffic disruptions.Mumbai Rain Update: Heavy Showers and Strong Winds Continue

Mumbai and the Mumbai Metropolitan Region are expected to receive additional spells of heavy rainfall as the current monsoon system remains active.

Earlier weather forecasts indicated that Mumbai, Thane, Navi Mumbai and Palghar could experience heavy rainfall along with strong winds. Among the affected regions, Palghar district and Shahapur area are expected to receive some of the heaviest rainfall during intense spells. Extremely heavy rainfall has been predicted in these locations, increasing concerns over possible flooding in low-lying areas.

The Nashik mountain region is also likely to witness heavy rainfall, while rain activity is expected to continue across several parts of Maharashtra except some areas of Marathwada.

Rainfall estimates during the ongoing weather spell indicate heavy showers in Mumbai, Thane, Navi Mumbai and Kalyan-Dombivli. Palghar, Shahapur and Nashik mountain areas are expected to receive significantly higher rainfall, with isolated locations potentially recording extremely heavy showers.Active Monsoon Conditions to Continue Across Maharashtra

The current rainfall spell is expected to continue across Maharashtra for the next few days, with heavy showers likely over coastal and central parts of the state.

With intense rainfall, strong winds and changing weather conditions affecting several districts, authorities have continued monitoring the situation closely. Decisions regarding school operations will remain dependent on local safety assessments, while residents across Mumbai and nearby regions have been advised to remain alert during the ongoing monsoon period.
